Spring 2020 Season cancelled - Fall registration will open soon..

Toby Ward

Lets focus on the fall.

SBL Families,

We hope that you all continue to stay well as the health and safety of our SBL community continues to be our top priority. Thank you for your continued patience as the SBL Board has navigated through this unprecedented situation. The SBL BoD met on May 7, 2020 to discuss the ongoing situation in light of recent decisions at the county and state levels. After a long discussion as to what a “phased reopening” would look like, the SBL BoD has voted to cancel the Spring/Summer 2020 season. The decision was unanimous and not done lightly. We were hopeful that things would turn around sooner and that we could provide a season and a sense of normalcy this summer. We also realize that, as the Virginia begins to reopen through the “Phases”, many families priorities this summer will be on getting away and visiting loved ones or going on vacations.

The SBL Board will now focus on providing a safe and enjoyable fall season. Registration for the 2020 Fall Season will open on June 1, 2020. We will hopefully be able to start the fall season earlier to provide baseball to the community. As such, please see the tentative dates for the season to begin.

Fall Season dates to remember:

June 1, 2020 – Registration opens

August 1, 2020 – League wide assessments (try-outs). These assessments are held to evenly place kids on teams (attendance is recommended for the assessments, but not required to play in the fall season as all kids will be placed on a team). These assessments will for Baseball ages 9 – 18 and Softball for the divisions of 10U and above. In the younger division’s players will be placed on teams according to geography.

August 22, 2020 – Games for the Fall Season will begin.

Stafford Baseball League would like to take a second to recognize all the volunteers that have committed to giving their time for an enjoyable season for all of our kids.

While we have canceled the spring/summer season, rest assured that the SBL Board is committed to doing whatever it takes to getting our kids back on the field as soon as it is viable and safe to do so. If the summer provides the opportunity, SBL will host free clinics like we did in the winter, except this time on the ball fields. Players will need to be registered for the Fall Season to take part in these clinics, if we are able to have them.

Justin Whitaker Memorial Scholarship - Although a difficult year to do so financially, via the generous donations of sponsors, the board of Stafford Baseball League is able to continue with awarding this annual scholarship. For the 12th year, graduating High School Seniors, that are scheduled to attend a university or college in the fall, can apply for this scholarship. This is a competitive award and an essay will be required. Each recipient will receive a $500 check to apply to their fall semester as needed. More details and the application can be found on our website www.staffordbaseball.org beginning Monday May 11, 2020.

In order to properly allocate your paid funds from the spring season, all members that have not done so are asked to fill out the form (link below) so that we know your intentions.

Option 1: CREDIT - 100% of the funds paid will remain in your SBL account as a credit for a future season (Fall 2020 or Spring 2021). These funds will be applied at the time of registration for one of the aforementioned seasons. Credit must be used by June 1, 2021. Please note that if your child “moves up” a division due to aging up, there may be a slight fee increase for the next season

Option 2: DONATION - This option allows families to donate 100 % of the fees paid to SBL for the 2020 spring season in lieu of participating in the spring/summer season (if applicable). These funds will be used to offset the costs in preparation for the 2020 spring season and to fund the SBL Financial Aid program that provides assistance on future registration fees for children of families that may not have the requisite funds to participate in SBL. The account holder will receive an acknowledgement of your donation to SBL which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Option 3: Refund - This final option requests a refund for your 2020 spring registration fees. While SBL incurs a financial cost with every registration, we will honor a 100% refund to our families that request this option. Please note: The potential for volume on these requests will be unprecedented for us as a volunteer Board. We assure you that we will get to all of these requests as quickly as possible. We thank you in advance for your patience as we process your requests.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during the past couple months. It was our hope that we could provide a meaningful and enjoyable season for the kids. We WILL play baseball in 2020, we just need to wait a little longer. We sincerely hope that all of you remain well, stay safe and have an enjoyable summer.
